Sorbonne University and the University of Paris are offering a two-year Master's program in physics, taught in English, starting in September 2022 in Paris, France.

Program Overview

The first year of the Paris Physics Master consists of a broad and demanding set of courses in advanced fundamental, experimental, and numerical physics.

While the second year (after a second selection procedure) consists of further courses followed by a Master’s thesis on a research topic of the student’s choice.

Through regular contact with researchers in theoretical and experimental physics, the Master's program aims to develop the necessary intellectual rigor and practical acumen for research, and hence prepare the students for a doctoral thesis.

Admission Requirements

The Paris Physics Master program is aimed at students holding a Bachelor of Science and Technology, majoring in physics, and having various minors: chemistry, mathematics, mechanics, biology, etc.

Fluency in the English language is from the prerequisites of this program. No knowledge of French is required.

Second Year

After completing the first year, students are fully prepared to continue their second year in one of the five programs offered by the two universities:

  • Physics of Complex Systems
  • Quantum Devices
  • SMNO-Nanomat
  • Nuclei, Particles, Astroparticles Cosmology
  • Physics of Plasmas and Fusion

In each case, a six-month Master’s thesis is included.

Tuition Fees

There are no tuition fees at public French universities in general or there could be a low amount of fees sometimes. However, the annual tuition fees for students registered at a master’s program at Sorbonne University are around $343.

Scholarships

  • Usually, there are no scholarships offered by Sorbonne University, but in some cases, partial financial support may be available. However, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs is offering the Eiffel Excellence Scholarships with the aim of supporting international student recruitment by French higher education institutions amid growing competition among developed countries to attract the academic elite from around the world.

Scholarship Objectives

The objectives of the French Ministry’s Eiffel Excellence Programme are as follows:

  • to train in French higher education institutions aspiring foreign policy-makers of the private and public sectors in three priority study areas: science, economics and management, and law and political science;
  • to encourage applications by students from emerging countries, especially from Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the new EU Member States and, at the doctoral level, from industrialized countries.
