The Faculty of Economics and Business at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) is offering a one year Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) program that integrates the necessary knowledge for the new leadership and management schemes that are the protagonists of the New Economy, which represents a clear opportunity to create competencies that allow the development of a successful professional and research career.

Program Overview

The UAM MBA is located on the UAM Campus of Excellence where teaching, research, and entrepreneurship converge in an environment full of opportunities for professional development. 

This MBA program aims to train competent specialists to know how to direct, undertake and innovate business in today's knowledge economy. And has two profiles: manager and researcher.

  • The manager seeks to develop in the student the precise capacities for decision-making, change management, and the strategic direction of companies and other organizations.
  • The researcher seeks to develop in the student the capacities that allow him to contribute to the scientific advancement of the field of Business Administration, Management, and Organization. This profile gives access to the Official Doctoral Programs.

For the immediate future, various organizations need people trained at the highest level in the field of management (Strategic, Production and Quality, Human Resources, Technology, and Innovation). The MBA facilitates the student’s training from a rigorous, international, up-to-date, and practical perspective.

Admission Requirements

The recommended entry profile is that of graduates of degrees from any discipline who show a high degree of interest in business management and leadership, with a strong motivation to develop a successful professional or research career in this field.

More specifically, the MBA tries to arouse concerns and create competencies for entrepreneurial exercise both within organizations and in the research field.

Specific access and admission requirements

  • Graduate or engineering degree or equivalent or be in possession of the qualifying degree before the beginning of the academic year.
  • Students whose mother tongue is not Spanish must present a certificate certifying their knowledge of at least B2 level of the CEFR of the Council of Europe.
  • Applicants must submit a motivation letter (1000 words maximum) indicating the reasons for requesting admission to the Program, their professional expectations regarding it, and, eventually, their research interests. In the case of foreign students, they must indicate how the title will be applied in their countries of origin upon their return.
  • Accredit knowledge of the English language.
  • Accredit knowledge of management informatics and statistical applications.

Course Structure

The degree is aimed at graduates in any discipline who want to complete their training and acquire managerial skills or develop a research profile in Business Administration.

For students who come from an ADE degree or similar (Students who have a degree or equivalent degree in Business Administration and Management, Tourism, Aeronautical Management, Economics and Finance, Finance and Accounting, Financial and Actuarial Economics): 60 ECTS. Classes begin in October.

For students who come from other degrees: In addition to the 60 credits, additional Training Complements of 20 credits are offered. These training supplements must be completed and passed by those students who have a degree (or equivalent degree) not included in the following relationship: Business Administration and Management, Tourism, Aeronautical Management, Economics and Finance, Finance and Accounting, Financial Economics and Actuarial.

However, those students who have a degree (or equivalent title) belonging to the branches of Social and Legal Sciences, and Engineering and Architecture may be exempted from taking and passing one or more of such training supplements when, in the opinion of the Commission Responsible for the Master, in the study plan passed by the student to obtain his degree (or equivalent), there are subjects or subjects equivalent to one or more of the aforementioned training supplements.

Courses to be taken in the first period 

(only for students who must take training supplements for not coming from the aforementioned studies, beginning of September) : Training supplements: 20 ECTS

  • 32457 - Business Management and Organization (4 ECTS)
  • 32458 - Finance for Executives (4 ECTS)
  • 32459 - Analysis of Accounting Information (4 ECTS)
  • 32460 - Marketing Strategy (4 ECTS)
  • 32461 - Economic and Business Analysis (4 ECTS)

Courses to be taken in the second period: 20 ECTS

These 20 ECTS must be made up of 17 ECTS from compulsory subjects and 3 ECTS from elective subjects.

Compulsory subjects:

  • 32462 - Strategy in business innovation (4 ECTS)
  • 32463 - Operations and quality management (4 ECTS)
  • 32464 - Quantitative management methods (4 ECTS)
  • 32465 - Internationalization of the company (4 ECTS)
  • 32466 - Management skills workshop (Negotiation and Communication) (1 ECTS)

Elective subjects:

To choose one of the following two:

  • 32467 - Information and decision systems (3 ECTS)
  • 32468 - Ethics, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility (3 ECTS)

Courses to be taken in the third period: 19 ECTS

These 19 ECTS must be made up of 13 ECTS from compulsory subjects and 6 ECTS from elective subjects.

Compulsory subjects:

  • 32469 - Entrepreneurship, family business, and business creation (3 ECTS)
  • 32470 - Company Law (3 ECTS)
  • 32471 - Company taxation (3 ECTS)
  • 32472 - People management and organizational behavior (3 ECTS)
  • 32473 - Management skills workshop (Coaching) (1 ECTS)

Elective subjects:

To choose two of the following five:

  • 32474 - Sociology of organizations (3 ECTS)
  • 32475 - Management accounting (3 ECTS)
  • 32476 - Business management simulation (3 ECTS)
  • 32477 - Market Research (3 ECTS)
  • 32478 - Government of knowledge, intellectual capital, and organizational learning (3 ECTS)

Courses to be taken in the fourth period: 21 ECTS

These 21 ECTS must be made up of 6 ECTS for compulsory subjects and 15 ECTS for elective subjects, which will be defined according to the chosen profile: professional or researcher.

Professional Profile

Compulsory subjects:
  • 32482 - Final Master's Thesis (6 ECTS).

The student must develop a business case, or a business creation project.

Elective subjects:

Research Profile

Compulsory subjects:
  • 32483 - Final Master's Thesis (6 ECTS)

The student must prepare a research work.

Elective subjects:
  • 32480 - Research methodology in business organization (9 ECTS)
  • 32481 - Introduction to the Final Master's Thesis (6 ECTS)

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees for the 1st registration at the MBA program at the UAM are as follows:

  • For Spanish and residents: $3,087
  • For non-resident non-EU members: $5,731.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

The Autonomous University of Madrid, together with different institutions, offers a series of scholarships and grants to carry out Master's studies. Those scholarships include but are not limited to:

Aid for Master-UAM studies: 

Aid for students with a good academic record, enrolled in official Master's studies at the UAM, consisting of the exemption of 50% of the tuition fees amount. 

External Curricular Internships

Financial aid for carrying out curricular external internships in Departments / Services / Units of the UAM for postgraduate students. The aid is 600 euros/month with a maximum weekly dedication of 25 hours.
