About the organization

The Varkey Foundation established The Global Teacher Prize in 2014, to recognize and celebrate the impact that teachers have around the world – not only on their students but on the communities around them. Thanks to inspirational teachers, students develop the skills and knowledge that they need to lead successful lives and positively impact the world. The Global Teacher Prize is awarded by the Varkey Foundation under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
