About the organization

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) was founded in 1966 as an independent research institute based at the University of Sussex. IDS has close links with the University but is financially and constitutionally independent. Over the last fifty years, it has worked with governments, philanthropic foundations, academic institutions, and civil society organizations to transform approaches to progressive social, political, and economic change. IDS works to transform the knowledge, action, and leadership needed for more equitable and sustainable development globally, through world-class research, learning, and teaching.
