King Saud University is an independent Saudi public university located in Riyadh. It was opened in 1957, and is considered the second university established in the Kingdom after Umm Al-Qura University. King Saud University is the second largest university in the world in terms of area, and the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has allocated to this university the equivalent of 1% of the state budget annually. King Saud University is one of the top 200 universities around the world according to the academic classification of world universities in 2013, 2014 and 2019, and the QS ranking gave King Saud University the 197th best university around the world, the 159th in science and medicine, and the 108th in the arts and humanities.
