Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG)
Centre for Study and Research FollowAbout the organization
The Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) researches the development of the internet from a societal perspective. The aim is to better understand the digitization of all spheres of life. As the first institute in Germany with a focus on internet and society, HIIG has established an understanding that emphasizes the embeddedness of digital innovations in societal processes. Drawing on the scientific competencies brought together at the institute, HIIG makes substantive contributions to our understanding of the relationship between innovation and governance in the digital society. It is about the realization and change of social values and norms, for example in the development of technologies and business models, but also about the question of how this can be done in an innovation-friendly way.
