Thomson Foundation is excited to announce the return of the prestigious Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award where young journalists, their work, and their voices are at the center. It gives you the opportunity to participate in the ninth edition of the competition that is dedicated to finding and inspiring ambitious journalists from across the globe. You should submit a portfolio of three stories. These can be a mixture of investigative pieces and human-interest stories, but be sure that at least one of them has an environmental focus.

- All three finalists will be awarded:
- £1,000 learning bursaries.
- or funds to buy equipment.
- Special recognition and an additional £1,000 bursary for the journalist with the best overall environmental story.
- The opportunity to showcase your environmental stories on the award website and social media channels.
Eligibility criteria
You should be:
- Aged 30 and under on 29th November 2021.
- From countries with a Gross National Income (GNI) per capita of less than $20,000.
- Send your best stories.
- Submit a portfolio of three stories in any medium (print, audio, video, multimedia, or a combination of all four).
- Applicants can provide URL links to their stories online.
- Submit a portfolio of three published or broadcast pieces of work produced in the 12 months preceding 10th September 2021.
- Entries can be in any language but should be accompanied by a verbatim English-language translation.
- Environmental stories should be focused on one or more of the subjects covered by environmental reporting: sustainability, pollution, nature/biodiversity, and/or climate change.
- Entries should be accompanied by a letter from the applicant’s current editor, on headed company notepaper verifying that it is the published work of the entrant.
