Wellcome Career Development Awards provide funding for mid-career researchers from any discipline with the potential to become international research leaders. The scheme supports the development of research capabilities, innovative programs of work, and significant advancements in understanding human life, health, and well-being. Wellcome’s focus areas are mental health, infectious disease, and climate and health.
Funding:
- Annual expenditure for an award is usually below £250,000, excluding the applicant’s salary.
Eligibility:
- Mid-career researchers ready to lead a substantial and innovative research program with the potential to make a key contribution to their field by generating significant shifts in understanding or developing new methodologies/tools/techniques.
- During the award period, researchers are expected to develop their research capabilities and leadership skills, support responsible research practices, and train the next generation of researchers.
- By the end of the award, researchers should have achieved international standing in their field and have the skills and experience to apply for permanent research positions.
Application:
In addition to completing the application form, applicants must provide:
- A letter of support from their current supervisor.
- A letter of support from the director of finance (if requesting overheads).
- A quote (for equipment costing £100,000 or more).
The deadline is 5 pm (GMT/BST) on November 26, 2024. Late applications will not be accepted.
