United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in South Sudan: Project Engineer.
Duration:
3 months
Duties & responsibilities
- Applying engineering principles in the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings, roads, and other infrastructure projects.
- Producing CAD drawings and technical specifications for mission projects, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Conducting on-site supervision for construction projects, ensuring contractors meet project specifications.
- Developing and analyzing project proposals to ensure technical feasibility within mission constraints.
- Overseeing quality control by preparing snag lists and discrepancy reports, ensuring adherence to project contracts.
- Supervising contractor performance and quality of completed tasks.
- Providing mentorship and training to national personnel, strengthening technical capacity within the mission.
- Ensuring adherence to environmental and sustainability measures in engineering projects.
Eligibility criteria
Age: 18 - 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
Required experience:
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in engineering, construction, or facility management.
- Extensive experience in project coordination, design, and site supervision.
- Proficiency in CAD design, BOQ preparation, and cost estimation is required.
- Proven expertise in technical evaluation and quality control processes is required.
- Experience of facility maintenance and logistics operations is required.
- PRINCE2 or PMP certification is desirable.
- Computer skills: AutoCAD, MS Project, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with project cost estimation, site inspections, and technical reporting is desirable.
- Experience in a multi-national organisational environment is desirable,
Languages:
English, Level: Fluent, Required
Required education level:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Architecture from a recognized institution.
- Registered Engineer with an internationally recognized institution is desirable.
