Creative Writing Ink announces the Bournemouth Online Writing Competition, which offers winners the chance to win a cash prize of £500. The Bournemouth Competition is an annual international short story and poetry competition, in which winners will receive personal feedback from industry professionals as well as cash prizes for each category.
Benefits
- The winner of the short story category will receive a cash prize of £500, plus a one-hour consultation with Greene and Heaton, Laura Williams.
- The winner of the poetry category will receive a cash prize of £500, plus a one-hour consultation and assessment session with Dithering Chaps.
- Both winners will also receive:
- Two complimentary tickets and a 10-minute guest spot at the Bourn Jammy event on Saturday 26 April at Pavilion Dance, where the band will improvise music for the winning entry. The short story winner will need to shorten their entry to fit within the guest spot timeframe. Winners must make their own travel and accommodation arrangements, and cover any associated costs.
- Two complimentary tickets to any lecture or workshop held at Pavilion Dance over the three-day festival.
- A free printable copy of the competition selection.
Eligibility criteria
You must:
- Be over 16 years old.
- The competition welcomes entries from all over the world.
- Short stories must be under 3,000 words.
- Poems must be 30 lines or less.
- You can choose any style or subject you wish to enter in the short story category as the competition is primarily looking for passionate storytellers who can create compelling characters and tell distinctive stories.
- You can enter up to three poems in any genre or subject you wish, with each poem being a maximum of 30 lines (excluding title and line spacing).
- The entry fee is £10.

- No student or staff currently employed by the Bournemouth Writing Prize and/or Bournemouth Magazine are eligible to enter this competition.
