International Volunteer HQ announces a volunteer opportunity in the field of sustainable agriculture in Rome - Italy. The International Volunteer HQ's Permaculture Project enables volunteers to work with their hands on one of Rome's many farms and parks. Volunteers may also have the opportunity to work alongside immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, senior citizens, and even children. Programs will start on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. The program costs $1,265 for two weeks, which includes accommodation, breakfast and dinner, airport pick-up, orientation, and 24/7 support. Lunch will not be provided and it is preferable to save a budget of about $10 per day to purchase it from the nearby excellent local shops, cafes, and restaurants, which can be easily reached near the property.
Duties & responsibilities
You will assist with a range of activities that vary according to the seasons and local priorities, which include:
- Cultivation, irrigation, and general gardening with a range of Mediterranean plants.
- Grow and harvest vegetables and legumes in the big garden.
- Craft workshop activities such as creating objects of different designs using waste or recyclable materials.
- Urban beekeeping and honey production.
- Farm animal care.
- Assisting in various events and selling handmade and food products.
- Organizing fun design workshops for children.
- Any profits generated from these activities will go back to the projects in which the workers participate, as well as to other local non-profit associations involved in supporting social causes.
Eligibility criteria
- You must be over 18 years of age to participate in this program.
- You must have appropriate voluntary travel insurance.
- You must be able to speak English.

- Volunteers will be housed in a central hostel in Rome. You will be sharing a room with another volunteer or volunteers of the same gender. Bed linen and towels will be provided, and shared bathrooms will be available. Staff will clean the property throughout the week, but volunteers must keep their rooms tidy.
- The lodge has a large swimming pool as well as social facilities and other games for the volunteers to enjoy at their leisure.
- Wi-Fi is available in the camping lodge. It may not be available in your room; However, it will be available in all common areas. Wi-Fi is also available in many cafes and restaurants in the area.
- You can have a single or double private room in the camping lodge, with the use of shared bathrooms, at an additional cost.
- The tap water is good to drink in Rome and the property has a drinking water fountain where you can refill your reusable bottle. However, mineral water is also available if you want it, but you will have to set aside about $10 a week to buy it.
