Opportunity description

The Australian National University announces a Partially Funded Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP) Scholarship for Postgraduate Students in Australia. Each year the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training provides funding to universities to award a range of scholarships to domestic and international students undertaking postgraduate degree research programs in the country.

  • The duration of this scholarship will be 3 years, with the possibility of extending it for an additional 6 months.
  • You will receive travel and transportation allowances.
  • Your research thesis will be funded.
  • You will receive a living allowance for your child (available for international students only).
  • You will receive customary medical leave and paid maternity or paternity leave (see Sections 51-68 of the
    Research Training Program Scholarship Procedures).

Eligibility criteria

  • The first round is divided into two parts, one for international candidates and one for domestic candidates with separate deadlines (August 31 for international candidates and October 31 for domestic candidates each year).
  • Those accepted for this scholarship will be selected based on academic merit.
  • The scholarship can be extended based on continued academic performance.
  • The Australian National University has created an RTP Policy and Procedures that sets out the criteria, processes and conditions for this award, which you can find in the Reference Documents section here.
  • Candidates are ranked and scholarships are awarded on the basis of a competitive selection process, to the highest ranked candidates, taking into account evidence that they meet the merit-based selection criteria, and subject to confirmation by a qualified supervisor, and the availability of space and resources, in a research area that is consistent with the Australian National University's research strategy.
