Opportunity description
Qatar Museums Foundation announces the opportunity to attend the exhibition “Ellsworth Kelly: A Century of Creation” in Qatar, which includes approximately 70 works spanning the entire career of Ellsworth Kelly. “Ellsworth Kelly: A Century of Creation” is the first retrospective of the American artist in the Middle East, and is organized by the Glenstone Museum in Maryland. The exhibition, which is being held at M7 in Doha, includes approximately 70 loans of works spanning the entire career of Ellsworth Kelly from his beginnings as an emerging artist in post-war Paris, to his final years as an icon of modern art.
Benefits
- The comprehensive show—which includes works rarely seen anywhere—charts the artist’s lifelong exploration of the relationships between form, color, line, and space. Notable works include Painting of a White Wall (1952) and Three Part Painting (1956), in which Kelly reduced the painting to its simplest form and incorporated the surrounding architecture into the painting. Also included is Yellow Curve (1990), his first floor painting, in which the artist combined painting, sculpture, and installation.
- The exhibition also includes works from the artist’s Chatham series (1971), drawings and works on paper from the late 1940s to the early 2000s, and a selection of the artist’s lesser-known photographs (1950–82).
- The exhibition, which coincides with the centenary of Kelly’s birth (in 2023), is the first major exhibition to introduce the American artist to audiences from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, allowing them to see his works that have had a profound impact on modern and contemporary art, design and aesthetics.
