United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in South Sudan: Water and Sanitation Engineer.
Duration:
3 months
Duties & responsibilities
- Participate in planning and management of the Water and Sanitation activities for both current as well as future requirements for water and sanitation services.
- Undertake tasks related to water supply and sewerage works installations.
- Periodically inspect ongoing WATSAN projects.
- Diagnose technical faults and carry out remedy for malfunctioning or defective sanitary installations.
- Perform diagnostics and preventive maintenance of installations of plumbing and pipe work
- Review and recommend for approval of WATSAN work orders and assign day to day repair and maintenance tasks to tradesmen and technicians being supervised.
- Read and interpret specifications and technical drawings, schedules, manuals for related WATSAN projects
- Prepare documentation required for budgeting, raising requisitions for the procurement of Water and Sanitation goods and services.
- Perform any other related water and sanitation duties as assigned by Unit Supervisor/Field Engineer
Eligibility criteria
Age: 18 - 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
Required experience:
- At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience as water and sanitation engineer or a civil engineer is required.
- Experience in designing water and sanitation system is required.
- Experience in project and contract management is required.
- Supervision of construction works is required.
- Ability to read blueprints and sketches is required.
- Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office application (excel, word, power point) and other IT applications and office technology equipment.
- Experience with AutoCAD is desirable.
- Experience with hydrologic modeling is desirable.
Languages:
English, Level: Fluent, Required
Required education level:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in Water supply and Sanitation Systems and Maintenance (particularly pipeline water supply system)
