International Volunteer HQ offers a kindergarten volunteer program in South Africa - Table View. International Volunteer HQ’s Kindergarten project is a great opportunity for volunteers to assist with early childhood education in low-income communities in Table View. Volunteers will gain childcare and kindergarten experience while teaching and caring for young children in understaffed centers and schools and helping teachers provide the quality education they strive to deliver.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Improving access to quality early childhood education.
  • Helping students learn and grow in a safe place.
  • Developing your communication skills.
  • Gaining childcare experience.
  • Provide support for many community preschools and schools in impoverished areas in South Africa that are unable to provide effective programs due to a lack of funding, resources, and skills.

As a Kindergarten volunteer, you’ll help preschools in disadvantaged communities, assisting local staff with teaching and caring for children who range from a few months old up to 6 years. Volunteer duties can vary but usually include:

  • Providing fun, educational activities.
  • Helping with development and learning.
  • Supervising children.
  • General chores.

Eligibility criteria

  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate in this program
  • All volunteers aged 13+ are required to provide a criminal background check to IVHQ prior to departure. Those aged 13-17, if unable to obtain a criminal background check, can provide two character reference letters instead.
  • All volunteers are required to have adequate volunteer travel insurance.
  • All volunteers must speak fluent English.
