International Volunteer HQ offers a Kindergarten Volunteer Program in Ecuador - Santa Elena. International Volunteer HQ’s Kindergarten project empowers volunteers to gain early childhood teaching experience in schools for disadvantaged children.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Young girls and children from low-income families are less likely to get quality education early in life in Santa Elena. Volunteers can make a difference by assisting at kindergartens which aim to make sure vulnerable children have access to education in these important formative years.
  • As a Kindergarten volunteer, you’ll be helping a local teacher in classes of 15 - 35 children aged between 4 -7 years old.
  • Kindergarten volunteer work can vary but usually includes:
  • Assisting with lessons in math, writing, reading, and art.
  • Helping out at lunch and playtime.
  • Interacting with young children.
  • When you volunteer with children in Ecuador - Santa Elena you’ll be adding value to the local community, while also developing personally and professionally by:
  • Helping improve early childhood education for disadvantaged children.
  • Practicing your Spanish.
  • Developing your communication skills.
  • Gaining childcare and teaching experience.
  • Immersing yourself fully in the Ecuadorian culture.
  • Exploring jungles and wildlife in Santa Elena.

Eligibility criteria

  • Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate in this program.
  • Volunteers aged 16-18 are required to provide IVHQ with parental consent in order to participate in this program and may be asked to provide additional documentation to the local team
  • All volunteers aged 13+ are required to provide a criminal background check to IVHQ prior to departure. Those aged 13-17, if unable to obtain a criminal background check, can provide two character reference letters instead.
  • All volunteers are required to have adequate volunteer travel insurance.
  • All volunteers must speak fluent English.
