The King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) Scholarship offers free study opportunities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for non-Saudis to pursue master’s, doctoral, and fellowship programs. This scholarship targets outstanding students who demonstrate promising research capabilities in the fields of engineering, sciences, and business within the university.

Conditions for Choosing a Specialization

For Saudi Students (or non-Saudis with Saudi mothers and GCC nationals)

  • College of Engineering: Specializations such as Electrical, Mechanical, and Chemical Engineering require completion of the preparatory year program within two semesters plus a summer session.
  • College of Petroleum Engineering and Earth Sciences: The program specializes in Petroleum Engineering and also requires successful completion of the preparatory year.
  • College of Computing and Information Technology: The specialization in Industrial Engineering and Systems requires successful completion of the preparatory year.
  • Colleges of Business, Science, and Environmental Design: Admission is granted after completing the preparatory year program.

For Non-Saudi Students

  • College of Engineering, College of Petroleum Engineering and Earth Sciences, and College of Computing and Information Technology: A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 is required upon passing the courses.
  • Colleges of Business, Science, and Environmental Design: Admission is granted after completing the preparatory year.


General Admission Requirements at KFUPM

  • The application must be submitted with all the required documents without delay; any missing documents may result in the rejection of the application.
  • Applicants must hold a certificate recognized in Saudi Arabia (either a high school diploma or a bachelor’s degree).
  • All specified admission criteria must be met.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 is required from the previous certificate.
  • Applicants must submit a valid English language proficiency certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, or STEP) along with three letters of recommendation from professors who have previously taught them.


KFUPM Preparatory Year Program

  • Duration: One academic year, with the possibility of adding an extra semester if necessary.
  • Requirements: All English courses must be passed with a grade of no less than C, and Mathematics courses with a grade of no less than D, in addition to other subjects such as Natural Sciences, Computer Studies, University Skills, Engineering Techniques, and Physical Education.
  • Retention Policies: If a student receives a grade lower than the required level in English or Mathematics, or fails to complete all the courses within three semesters, they will be dismissed from the program and will not be allowed to resume their studies.


Steps and Stages of the Admission Process

  1. Registration Stage: Applicants fill in their data and complete the online application.
  2. Preliminary Acceptance: Applicants are informed that they meet the requirements and are matched with suitable specializations, pending confirmation of their intent to enroll.
  3. Conditional Acceptance: After confirming their chosen specialization, applicants must complete their application by submitting the required documents (including language test results).
  4. Final Acceptance: Once all conditions are met, an unconditional acceptance notice is sent.
  5. University Enrollment: The student is assigned a university ID and provided access to electronic services to begin their studies.


Admission Rates and Grade Distribution

The university evaluates applicants based on:

  • Aptitude Test: 50%
  • Achievement Test: 40%
  • High School Certificate: 10%

The weighted percentage is determined based on the student’s performance in these three areas.


English Language Requirements for the Scholarship

Applicants must submit a score from an approved English language test (TOEFL, IELTS, or STEP) during the conditional acceptance stage. It is important to note that the test score is not added to the final admission grade this year.

For Saudi Students:

  • The original high school transcript.
  • Recent colored passport-sized photographs (with a white background and no glasses).
  • National ID card.

For Non-Saudi Students (with Saudi mothers):

  • The original high school transcript.
  • Recent colored passport-sized photographs.
  • The applicant’s residency permit.
  • The mother’s national ID.
  • The applicant’s birth certificate.

For Other Non-Saudi Students:

  • The original high school transcript.
  • Recent colored passport-sized photographs in formal attire.
  • The applicant’s birth certificate.
  • Passport.

All required documents must be uploaded electronically via the application portal.


Steps to Register for the Scholarship

  • Opening the Registration Portal: Available twice a year online.
  • Choosing the Program: Applicants select the desired academic program.
  • Creating an Account: A username and password are created, and the email is confirmed.
  • Filling in Personal Information: Applicants enter their details, previous education information, and test scores.
  • Recommendation Section: Applicants must provide details for three recommenders and send them email invitations.
  • Document Upload: Applicants can update and upload the required documents until the deadline.


Notification of Results

After the applications have been evaluated, successful candidates will receive a notification via email and text message. They can also check their admission status on the website. Subsequently, all accepted applicants must confirm their intent to enroll and upload the required documents within 24 hours; otherwise, their registration will be considered canceled.
