kentandsussexpoetry is pleased to announce launching its annual competition: Kent & Sussex Poetry Society Open Poetry Competition, 2023. It invites poets from all over the world to share their best work, and they will have a chance to win a amazing prizes.
Benefits
If you among the winners, you will have one of the following prizes:
- 1st Prize: £1000
- 2nd Prize: £300
- 3rd Prize: £100
- 4th Prize: 4 x £50
- In addition the aforementioned prizes, you will have:
- Prize-winning poems will be posted on the website and included in the annual Folio publication.
- The first prize winner will also be invited to read their poem at the monthly meeting in Tunbridge Wells on April 18th 2023.

Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following criteria:
- The competition is for anyone aged 16 and over, from anywhere in the world.
- Poems must be in English, and your original work.
- Poems can be on any subject, in any style, no longer than 40 lines.
- Poems should have neither been published elsewhere (including self-published) by 18th April 2023.
- Nor should they be entered into any other competition for which the results will be announced prior to 18th April 2023.
- Please ensure the poem is formatted as you wish, it is advisable to use a pdf format.
- All poems are should not bear your name, nor any other form of identification.
- Any number of poems can be submitted, on payment of £5 per poem, or £4 each for three poems or more.
- No person may win more than one prize.
Competition Timeline:
- The deadline for entries: 31st January 2023.
- Judge’s decision, and prize winners notifications: by mid-April.
- Results announcement on the website: on April 19th.
About kentandsussexpoetry:
The Kent & Sussex Poetry Society is a lively local group centered on Tunbridge Wells (on the Kent and East Sussex border), with a national reputation. It has around 90 members – mostly local but also further afield in other parts of the UK and France, Australia and the USA. Founded by Vita Sackville-West, it has been going for 75 years but remains as friendly and supportive and open to newcomers as ever.
