The Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) is now open for applicants from African Development Bank member countries who have relevant professional experience and a history of supporting development efforts in their countries. This scholarship program is designed for those applying for a master's degree in energy development and related fields.
Program Goals
The JADS program, a capacity-building initiative by the African Development Bank and the Government of Japan, aims to enhance human resource capabilities in Africa. It aligns with the bank's five strategic priorities:
- Feeding Africa
- Lighting and Powering Africa
- Industrializing Africa
- Integrating Africa
- Improving the quality of life for Africans
These priorities also align with major Japanese developmental aid initiatives.
Benefits
- Covers full tuition fees.
- Provides a monthly living allowance of 140,000 Japanese yen (subject to change).
- Offers round-trip airfare from the applicant's home country to APU at the start and end of the program.
Eligibility criteria
- Must be a citizen of an African Development Bank member country.
- Must be under 35 years old.
- Should hold a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in fields like energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, or engineering, with excellent academic records and relevant work experience.
- Must have at least one year of paid work in the home country or in another African country after obtaining the bachelor's degree within the last three years.
- Cannot be residing or working outside the home country.
- Should not be currently enrolled in a master's degree program.
- Must not be an executive director or employee of the African Development Bank Group or related by blood or adoption.
Commitment After Graduation
Scholarship recipients must agree to return to their home countries to contribute to economic and social development after completing their studies.
