Opportunity description
Since its establishment, the German University in Cairo (GUC) has adopted a policy that supports academically outstanding students by providing various and well-balanced scholarship programs.
GUC’s mission is founded on attracting creative, academically active high school graduates and supporting them through an educational environment that fosters their abilities and skills in both teaching and research, as well as enhancing their personal potential.
Main Scholarships
1. New Student Scholarships
- Full or partial scholarships for top high school graduates or their equivalents.
- Tuition fee exemption, provided a minimum GPA of 3.00 (C) is maintained.
2. Enrolled Student Scholarships
- Awarded to current students with outstanding performance.
- The program also offers sports scholarships for those with exceptional achievements at the international level.
3. Scholarship for High School Students
- Offered to students who rank among the top 10 in the national high school examinations.
- Covers tuition fees, accommodation for non-residents (if available), transportation, test fees, and insurance.
4. Scholarships for Holders of Foreign Certificates
- Full or partial scholarships for holders of Abitur, IGCSE, American Diploma, and other equivalent certificates.
- Requires passing GUC admission tests and adhering to the university’s regulations, with a minimum GPA of 3.00 (C).
5. Nile Basin Scholarship
- Offered in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for students from Nile Basin countries.
- Requires passing GUC admission tests and providing an official endorsement letter from the relevant embassy.
6. Scholarship for Students from Egyptian Governorates
- Allocates 54 full scholarships to top high school students across 27 governorates.
- Covers tuition fees, accommodation (subject to availability), transportation, test fees, and insurance.
Deadlines
- High School Certificate: Final date for scholarship consideration is August 21, and financial aid applications are accepted until August 23.
- Abitur & FOS: July 15 (deadline for scholarships and financial aid); refunds available until August 5.
- American Diploma & Other International Certificates: July 18 (deadline for scholarships and financial aid); refunds available until July 29.
- IGCSE & GCSE: August 19 (deadline for scholarships and financial aid); refunds available until September 2.
Financial Aid Policy
- Financial aid is granted to students who face financial difficulties, those who have siblings studying at GUC, or those with outstanding sports or cultural achievements.
- Aid continues throughout the study period as long as the student maintains a GPA of 3.00 (C) and adheres to university regulations.
Registration Steps
- Online Application: Complete the online form to receive your application number.
- Booking the Admission Test: You will receive an email from the Admissions Office to schedule your test date.
- On Test Day: Arrive early with your ID card, the test fee (EGP 650, non-refundable), and any required documents.
- For Applied Arts and Architecture Students: Submit a portfolio and pass both the aptitude test and a personal interview.
Admission Test
- Reasoning Test (50 minutes): Assesses comprehension, verbal relations, and inference skills.
- English Language Test (45 minutes): Covers language usage, reading comprehension, and listening comprehension.
- If a student fails, they may retake the test once more free of charge.
