Opportunity description

The American University of Beirut is offering three full-funded PhD scholarships at the Faculty of Health Sciences, within the framework of the Global Environmental and Occupational Health Research and Training Hub for the Middle East and North Africa (GEOHealth-MENA) Program for 2023.

About the program:

The program focuses on environment and occupational health research and training, and aims at advancing the pace of scientific discovery in this field and training experts in environmental and occupational health (EOH) research. The program, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is a collaboration between the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut, Yale University, and the University of Iowa.

Benefits

  1. The candidates accepted into the PhD program will receive a full-ride scholarship (tuition fees, stipend, health insurance, travel, other) over four years. 
  2. Trainees will spend six months of advanced and relevant research training at Yale University and the University of Iowa in the US. 

Eligibility criteria

  1. Applicants should present evidence of high interest and a strong record in population health research.
  2. The three PhD opportunities will be distributed as follows, one Egyptian, one Lebanese, and one Sudanese candidate. Applications thus are limited to these three nationalities
  3. The accepted candidates will be engaged with ongoing research on refugee agricultural workers.
