Opportunity description

Scottish Arts Trust invites writers worldwide to a short story competition entitled; Edinburgh Short Story Award. You can submit your story on any topic and will have a chance to with £2,000.

Benefits

If you are among the winners, you will have one of the following prizes:
  • First Prize: £2,000
  • Second Prize: £300
  • Third Prize: £150
  • Golden Hare Award: £500
  • The publication is offered to authors of the top twenty stories (or more) in the next anthology.

Eligibility criteria

You should follow the following criteria:

  • This competition is open to writers worldwide.
  • Entries can be on any theme or subject but must be original and written in English.
  • Entries must not have been previously published in print or online, been broadcast, or won a prize.
  • They must also be for adult readers. 
  • Non-fiction and fiction written for children under 14 years are not eligible.
  • Illustrated stories are not eligible.
  • Authors retain full worldwide copyright throughout.
  • Maximum length is 250 words, title excluded.
  • Acceptable file types are doc, docx, txt, and pdf.
  • No corrections or alterations can be made after entries have been received.
  • There is no limit to the number of entries any single entrant may make.
  • The Golden Hare Award is restricted to anyone over 16 years by 1 January in the year of the competition who is resident in Scotland.

Please note:

  • £7 entry fee per story.
  • Free entry for writers living in Scotland whose immediate family receives any form of income support.

The Scottish Arts Trust was established in 2014. Its aim is to support and promote innovation and creativity in the arts in Scotland through voluntary action. It provides new platforms for showcasing and promoting the work of Scotland’s artists, writers, musicians, and other practitioners, while also mobilizing and drawing on the skills, energy, and vision of volunteers committed to the creative arts.
