Université de Lorraine is accepting applications for Master Erasmus Mundus Decentralized Smart Energy Systems, a Joint Master Degree DENSYS is a collaborative two-year (120 ECTs) joint master degree programme with the goal to provide training in the inter-disciplinary fields of Decentralised smart ENergy SYStems. These systems play an increasing role in the perspective of a massive integration of the renewable energy sources into the energy system and the ongoing transition towards a low carbon society.
Benefits
All program costs cover the institutional tuition fees, the health and accident insurance, and the participation in all teaching activities of the programme, including lab courses, excursions, 2 Summer schools (1 per year), a week at Univ. Liège.
- For students from a Programme country, the program participation costs are EUR 4,500/year (EUR 9,000 in total).
- For students from a Partner country, the program participation costs are EUR 9,000/year (EUR 18,000 in total).
Programme countries: EU Member states, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia and Turkey.

Eligibility criteria
The program is open to all applicants around the world. The number of places in the program being limited, admission is highly competitive. The eligibility requirements (validated by all Consortium universities) are the following:
Degree:
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent academic qualifications from an internationally recognized university is required:
- degree of bachelor in science,
- degree of bachelor in engineering,
- technical degree of bachelor in mechanical or aeronautical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering,
- technical degree of bachelor in energy engineering where courses fluid mechanics, applied thermodynamics and heat transfer are required,
- Other corresponding technical or natural scientific degrees on the first level (180 credits) can also give eligibility but specific courses have to be included: applied thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, mathematics, and numerical methods.
Note: Such specific requirements may be assessed as not fulfilled if:
- The average grade is in the lower third on the grading scale used (above pass level);
- The degree does not qualify for admission to equivalent Master’s level in the country where the degree is awarded.
English language:
The minimum requirements are:
- TOEFL
- Internet Based Test score of 92/120 must be achieved with reading, writing, listening, speaking with a min. of 22 for writing. Home Edition is also accepted due to the COVID19 pandemic.
- Paper-delivered test score of 77/90 must be achieved (reading, writing, listening) with a min. of 20 for writing
- IELTS Academic: Overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 on the writing criterion
- Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: minimum grade “C”
- Exemption for graduates who are nationals from English-speaking countries and who have been taught and evaluated in English.

Selection Procedure:
- The coordinating institution (Université de Lorraine) checks all submitted documents and if the applicants fulfil the admission requirements.
- The applications are reviewed and rated by two reviewers from the four academic partners of the consortium. Five criteria are graded, for a maximum score of 100 points. The criteria are the following:
- Degree, field of study, marks (max. 45)
- Recommendations letters / self-presentation video (max. 20)
- Motivation / work experience / professional and academic potential / awards (max. 25)
- English language proficiency (max. 10)
