International Volunteer HQ announces a Volunteer Elderly Care Program in Zambia. You will provide assistance in facilities for the care of elderly people who have no one else to look after them. You will gain significant experience in hospice care while making a real difference in the lives of older people who have the potential to be homeless, ill, or have various disabilities.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Provide vital assistance in aged care facilities and make a measurable difference to the quality of life of the elderly who live there.
- You will be working alongside local staff in aged care facilities which can be severely understaffed and resourced so must be willing to work independently and proactively.
- You will provide the necessary assistance in all matters relating to general tasks such as:
- Care of the elderly.
- Provide companionship for them.
- Serving meals.
- General Maintenance.
- Cleaning.
- Gardening.
- This opportunity will enable you to add value to the local community, while also developing personally and professionally, through:
- Provide care for the frail elderly.
- Improving the quality of life in nursing homes.
- Develop your communication skills.
- Gain experience in the field of elderly care.
- Immersion in Zambia culture.
- Discover the amazing wildlife of Africa.
Eligibility criteria
- Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to participate in this program.
- All volunteers aged 13+ are required to provide a criminal background check to IVHQ prior to departure. Those aged 13-17, if unable to obtain a criminal background check, can provide two character reference letters instead.
- All volunteers are required to have adequate volunteer travel insurance.
- All volunteers must speak fluent English.
