Opportunity description

The DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program is a residency program for international cultural practitioners that facilitates and supports creative processes, encounters, and collaborations.

Fellows receive support during and after their residency in Berlin to develop and present exhibitions, concerts, performances, film projects, readings, and publications. Collaboration with guests and partners results in new creative endeavors presented at the daadgalerie, other Berlin cultural institutions, throughout Germany, and internationally.

Benefits:

  • The fellowship lasts twelve months (visual arts, literature, music) or six months (film).
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses and rent.
  • A furnished apartment (accessibility may vary).
  • Travel and luggage expenses (economy class scheduled flight), also for partners and children residing in Berlin for the fellowship duration.
  • Health, accident, and liability insurance (if necessary; premiums deducted from the stipend).
  • German language courses (optional).

Eligibility:

  • The program is for outstanding international artists in visual arts, film, literature, and music & sound. It’s intended for established artists who have developed their own voice and standing.
  • There is no upper age limit.
  • An academic background is not required. However, the program prefers artists who critically engage with historical issues and contemporary discourses, addressing relevant issues of our time.
  • Applications are accepted only in film, literature, and music & sound categories.

Application:

Applications for 2026 residencies (film, literature, music & sound) are open. The deadline is December 15, 2024, 23:59 CET. Visual arts candidates are nominated by a specialist jury.
