Opportunity description
African Union offers grant opportunities to AU Member State citizens who lead an organization. This is an opportunity from Innovating Education in Africa (IEA) that aims of identifying, promoting, and supporting the systemic adoption and replication of education innovations in all aspects of education and training in Africa. This is your chance to support, develop, and promote your innovation.
Benefits

- Grants of up to 100,000 USD to implement pilot projects in collaboration with the AU Member States.
- Certificate of recognition from the African Union Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation.
- Promotion and publicity of Innovation to the AU Member States and Development Partners including:
- Publication in the Africa Education Innovations Handbook 2021.
- Future invitation to participate in AU events and programs.
Eligibility criteria
You should be from AU Member State citizens who lead an organization that meets the following criteria:
- Implementing or piloting an education innovation in one or more of the AU Member States.
- Legally registered and operational for not less than 1 year.
- Directly responsible for the implementation and management of the innovation (not acting as an intermediary).
- Should not have been a previous grant recipient under Innovating Education in Africa.
- Submissions should be in English or French.
Evaluation and selection process:
Organizations will undergo a four-stage review process:
Stage 1 (26- 30 June):
- Strict eligibility check.
Stage 2 (1- 30 July):
- Fifty (50) innovations will be selected based on:
- Impact.
- Revenue model.
- Adaptation to the African context and challenges.
- The significance.
Stage 3 (2- 31 August):
- Ten (10) innovations will be selected based on their feasibility for scaling up in the African context:
- Cost.
- Time.
- Technical requirements.
- Their potential for wide impact.
Stage 4 (21- 22 October):
- Three (3) finalists will be selected based on:
- The ability to make a case for the superior value offered by the innovation.
About African Union (AU):
The advent of the African Union (AU) is being described as an event of great magnitude in the institutional evolution of the continent. On 9.9.1999, the Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African Unity issued a Declaration calling for the establishment of an African Union, with a view, to accelerating the process of integration in the continent to enable it to play its rightful role in the global economy while addressing multifaceted social, economic and political problems compounded as they are by certain negative aspects of globalization. In addition to promoting unity and solidarity among the African States; coordinate and intensify cooperation for development; safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Member States and promote international cooperation within the framework of the United Nations.
