We invite you to submit your artwork for the "Anomalous Mathematical Patterns" competition, which will take place from December 4, 2024 (00:01 GMT) to March 31, 2025 (23:59 GMT) at the Isaac Newton Institute (INI), UK, as part of the "Stochastic Systems for Anomalous Diffusion" research program.
Competition Objectives:
- Highlight the relationship between mathematics (particularly probability theory) and art.
- Explore how artists and mathematicians interpret mathematical concepts.
- Communicate mathematical research to a broader audience.
- Inspire new generations toward mathematical education and training.
- Foster collaboration between artists and mathematicians.
Themes:

Competition Categories:
- Visual Arts: Photography, painting, film, print, animation.
- Physical Arts: Textile, sculpture, 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC routing.
- Digital Arts: AI-generated and digitally enhanced artworks.
Each submission must include a 200-word explanation of the mathematical significance of the work, addressed to both the judges and the general audience.

Judging Criteria:

Exhibition & Public Engagement:
Finalist works may be displayed at UCL Cloisters, the Isaac Newton Institute, and museums across the UK and Europe. Some works may also be featured in an online archive or video documentation of the competition.
Terms & Conditions:
- Artists confirm they own the full copyright of their work upon submission.
- Organizers may use selected works for exhibition, promotion, or educational purposes with proper credit.
- The competition is void where prohibited by law. Organizers reserve the right to modify rules or disqualify entries at their discretion.

Benefits
- Best in Category: £750 for each of the three categories (visual, physical, and digital arts).
- Runner-up: £300 per category.
- Honorable Mention: £150 per category.
- People’s Choice Award: £750 (selected through public online voting).
- Participants’ Choice Award: £500 (voted by research program participants).
Artists may submit up to three entries, with each entry containing multiple images or artworks.
Eligibility criteria
- Entries must be created between May 31, 2024, and March 31, 2025.
- Submissions must be made via the online application form.
- Digital works must be in JPEG format, at least 1800 pixels in the longest dimension, RGB mode, and in the highest quality.
- The competition is open to artists aged 18 and over.
- Participants must cover the cost of shipping physical artworks if selected for exhibition.
