The Ian Parry Foundation announced the 2021 Ian Parry Scholarship and Competition for photographers and journalists from all around the world. Ian Parry was a photojournalist who died while on assignment for the Sunday Times during the Romanian revolution in 1989, only 24 years of age. This scholarship was created by his family and friends in order to build something positive from such a tragic death. Each year the Ian Parry Foundation holds an international photographic competition for young photographers who are either attending a full-time photographic course or are under 24.
Scholarship Categories:
The Ian Parry Scholarship is divided into two categories: The Sunday Times Award for Achievement and The Canon Award for Potential.
Selection Criteria:
The entry criteria for both is the same and the judges will make their decisions based on the individual merits of the entries. Entrants must submit a portfolio and a clear proposal of a project they would undertake if they won the scholarship.

- Mentorship Programme, the foundation offers a year-long personal Mentorship to the winner of The Canon Award for Potential. The 2020 mentor is highly respected photojournalist Jon Jones.
- Both winners will have the opportunity to take part in the
- Transmissions Programme at Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan.
- World Press Photo, automatically accepts the winner of the Achievement Award into its final list of nominees for the Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam.
- Winner's work will appear in The Sunday Times Magazine, the media sponsor.

About Ian Parry:
Ian Parry was a talented young photojournalist at the very beginning of his career when he was tragically killed whilst on assignment for The Sunday Times in December 1989, covering the downfall of the Romanian dictator. Ian was only 24 years old. On one of his first major assignments covering the revolution in Romania, a job he was determined to undertake, the plane carrying him home was shot down shortly after take off killing all on board.
