Opportunity description

The Pipeline Media Group (PMG) invites writers worldwide to participate in the third annual Short Film Screenwriting Competition. This allows both emerging and seasoned filmmakers a shot at financing and producing their work, as well as spotlighting their talents to garner interest from execs capable of advancing careers.

RULES:

  • The 2020 Competitions are open to writers worldwide who are eighteen (18) years or older at the time of entry.
  • The cover page should include the title only. Remove any contact information (name, email address, etc.) on the script. Logline and genre on the title page are preferred, but not required. If contact info is left on the script, we'll adjust the file accordingly (errors on the cover page will not result in disqualification).
  • Co-writers allowed. Only one writer needs to register.
  • Any file formats. PDF should be standard, however.
  • No limit on the number of entries. Each entry is a separate fee.
  • Simultaneous submissions are of course allowed (i.e. you can enter other contests with the same script).
  • All rights to the material remain with the entrant, whether they place as a finalist or not.
  • Electronic submissions only. No mailed entries.
  • Any genre accepted, including non-narrative or experimental shorts, proofs-of-concept, and teasers.
  • For lengths, there are no requirements, and all script lengths are accepted, but the submission must be intended as a short film or digital series pilot. Anything from one to (roughly) 50 pages for short films and 30 pages max for pilots.
  • The script must be unproduced at the time of entry. Produced films are allowed only in the Short Film Competition. If the film is produced any time after entry into the competition, it will still be eligible for awards.
  • Only completed scripts are allowed. No pitches.

Awards:

Grand Prize Winner - announced December 10th, 2021

  • $5,000
  • Pre-production support to get the film produced (varies by project).

Runners-up (2) - announced December 10th, 2021

  • $1,000 total ($500 to each runner-up)

Finalists (up to 5) - announced December 1st, 2021

The Grand Prize Winner, Runner-up, and Finalists all receive the following:

  • Script development with Film Pipeline execs.
  • Additional reviews of other film and TV scripts, with circulation consideration.
  • Industry circulation to select producers or financiers (varies by project).
  • Potential financing for future short scripts.
  • Invitations to annual writer and industry events hosted by Pipeline Media Group.

About Film Pipeline:

Launched in January 2018, Film Pipeline spotlights both a short script and short film competition intended to find extraordinary directors as well as distinguished projects that merit financing and production. Contest selections are circulated to agencies, producers, and managers looking for emerging directors, proof-of-concept or standalone shorts, and filmmakers across a broad spectrum of backgrounds. Unlike a typical festival, Film Pipeline promotes individual directors and plays an active role in getting content produced and distributed.
