Opportunity description

Queensland University offers a scholarship for athletes. This program was introduced in 2010 to provide high-performance support services to professional and/or elite athletes from Bachelor and postgraduate students who are ineligible for other scholarships on offer in The University of Queensland in Australia.



Benefits

These scholarships will be awarded, at the discretion of the Selection Committee, to the applicants showing the greatest merit as demonstrated by their ability and achievements in their chosen sport.

Award:

  • The scholarships will be awarded annually by the UQ Sport Academy upon recommendation from the selection committee.
  • The selection committee will determine the number of scholarships available each year. 
  • The UQ Sport Scholarship Ambassador Program is valued at $1,500 in support services per athlete per year. 


Eligibility criteria

Scholarships are open to athletes who:

  • Have represented at an open, national or international level in their chosen sport.
  • Lay in a professional sporting league.
  • Are enrolled, or intend to enrol, in a University of Queensland program (undergraduate or postgraduate) on a part-time or full-time basis.
  • Preference will be given to students who are members of or intend to join, a UQ sporting club.
  • Athletes who hold another UQ sporting scholarship are ineligible to apply.

Scholarship Conditions: 

  • The scholarship is tenable for one year, as per the UQ Academic Calendar, subject to the participant:
  1.  Maintaining the required enrolment in a relevant program.
  2.  Maintaining satisfactory academic progress.
  3. Where relevant, membership and satisfactory performance with an appropriate UQ Sporting Club, as determined by the CEO, UQ Sport.
  •  A recipient who fails to meet the requirements must show cause to the CEO, UQ Sport as to why their scholarship should not be canceled.

 Eligibility of Award:

 An applicant is eligible for an award if the applicant:

  1. Is an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, New Zealand Citizen or International Student. 
  2. Is a new or continuing student, who is or intends to be, enrolled at the required enrolment in a relevant program. 

Selection Process: 

  • The selection committee comprises of:
  1. The CEO, UQ Sport as Chair of the committee;
  2. The UQ Sport Academy Manager.
  3. Any other representatives as determined appropriate by UQ Sport. 
  • The scholarship/s will be awarded, at the discretion of the selection committee, to applicant/s showing the greatest merit as demonstrated by:
  1. Sporting achievements at an open national or international level in their chosen sport.
  2. Sporting achievements in a professional sporting league.
  3. Academic achievements in their secondary school studies or other post-secondary studies.
