The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) offers researchers from around the world the opportunity to conduct scientific research using their Labs in Europe. Research at EMBL is fascinating, multifaceted and at the forefront of scientific progress. EMPL encourages highly motivated and dedicated young researchers eager to broaden their experience to join their postdoctoral community. Postdocs at EMBL have a wide range of backgrounds including, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, medicine, engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science and bioinformatics. One of the available prestigious international fellowship programs includes the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) Long-Term Fellowships, that offers two-year fellowships with a focus on international exchange. As such, movement between countries is a prerequisite of this biannual fellowship. In addition to Short-Term Fellowships that fund research exchanges of up to three months between laboratories in eligible countries.

[1] Long-Term Fellowships:
The EMBO Long-Term Fellowships are awarded for a period of up to 24 months but the Fellowship Committee may also award a shorter period than requested. It supports post-doctoral research visits to laboratories throughout Europe and the world. International exchange is a key feature in the application process. The fellowships provide the following benefits:
- Stipend: Its intended to cover the cost of living in the host country. The stipend rate depends on the country being visited and might be subject to taxation.
- Dependent child allowance: EMBO Fellows are entitled to receive an additional allowance for dependent children under the age of 18. The value of the allowance depends on the country being visited.
- Childcare allowance: For children under the age of six, fellows can claim support for incurred child-care costs up to the amount of €2,500 per year and per child.
- Travel allowance: It's intended to cover travel costs up to the amount of €5,000 for the fellow and his/her family to and from the receiving institute.
[2] Short-Term Fellowships :
Short-Term Fellowships fund research exchanges of up to three months between laboratories in eligible countries. Awarded applicants can stay on their research visits for an additional three months. Click here for full details about eligibility. Short-Term Fellowships are intended for visits of 1 week and up to 3 months. The fellowship cover travel costs and stipend but not of any dependents. The subsistence rate depends on the country being visited.
