Opportunity description

The Government of Australia offers Palestinian students fully-funded Master's scholarships for the academic year 2021-2022. Australia Awards scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia. Those scholarships are open to Palestinian residents of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem.

Scholarship Benefits:

Australia Awards scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian education institution, including any preparatory training. Scholarship recipients will receive the following:

  • return air travel
  • a one-off establishment allowance on arrival
  • full tuition fees
  • contribution to living expenses
  • introductory academic program
  • overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship
  • supplementary academic support,
  • fieldwork allowance for research students and masters by coursework which has a compulsory fieldwork component.

Fields of Study:

The priority areas of study for the Palestinian Territories that align with the development priorities of the Palestinian Territories are: 

  • public policy
  • agriculture
  • water
  • health 

Australia Awards scholarships in the Palestinian Territories do not support medical degrees.

Eligibility criteria:

  • be a minimum of 18 years of age on 1 February of the year of commencing the scholarship
  • be a citizen of a participating country and be residing in and applying for the scholarship from their country of citizenship
  • not be a citizen of Australia, hold permanent residency in Australia, or be applying for a visa to live in Australia permanently
  • Not be applying for a scholarship for a course of study at an academic level lesser than they have already achieved

English language proficiency:

The applicant who has been offered a scholarship must have achieved an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 or higher (with no individual band score of less than 6.0) or an equivalent TOEFL or PTE score.

Commencement of study:

All scholarships must be taken up in the year for which they are awarded, this however also depends on travel restrictions due to COVID-19.

In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from the Palestinian Territories must also meet the following conditions: 

For Palestinian Authority employees: 

  • applicants must have a documented Academic IELTS score of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 when applying to be considered for conditional awards
  • priority will be given to candidates who do not already hold a master’s degree
  • priority will be given to candidates who have not received a scholarship from other scholarship programs
  • must be an employee of the Palestinian Authority with at least two years’ experience
  • must have the support of their Ministry and must return to work in their ministry on completion of the scholarship
  • have a bachelor degree
  • receive a final endorsement from their ministry. 

Non-Palestinian Authority candidates must:

  • have a bachelor degree
  • have a documented Academic IELTS results with an overall score of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 when applying to be considered for conditional awards
  • must return to work in the Palestinian Territories on completion of the scholarship.

Required Documents:

  • Proof of citizenship i.e. birth certificate/passport if available and photographic identification i.e. student card/driver’s license if the passport is not available.
  • Tertiary degree certificates (Bachelors and Master’s level)
  • Academic transcripts (where they are not in English, please provide a certified English translation)
  • Academic referee reports (with a seal: two reports for Master’s by Research applicants; one for Masters by Coursework applicants)
  • IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE results.
  • Employment referee report with seal.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
