Opportunity description

Samsung Engineering, in cooperation with UN Environment and Tunza Eco-generation, would like to launch “The 13th Eco-generation Environmental Essay Competition”, inviting youth from all over the world to raise awareness on the theme of the upcoming World Environment Day – Beat Air Pollution. As many of you know, World Environment Day is the United Nations flagship day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. Since it began in 1974, the event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. The competition aims to collect inspiring and creative ideas on why we should reduce air pollution by requiring them to think about diverse ways that we can help to combat air pollution.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Participants must be aged between 14 and 24 years old.
  2. Theme: Inspiring and creative stories on why we should reduce air pollution with regards to its causes, effects and consequences.
  3. No entry fee is required.
  4. All participation must be original works, in English.
  5. Each participant may submit only one essay.
  6. All participation are final and no revisions are accepted.
  7. Plagiarism and off topic will result in disqualification.
  8. Participation should not have been previously published in professional media.
  9. Participation must be from 800 to 1,000 words in length. This does not include referencing such as footnotes and bibliography
  10. Participants must register on the website first in order to submit their essay online.
  11. All participations must be double spaced in Times New Roman 12pt, with numbered pages in one of the following formats: MS Word or Word Perfect. All other formats will be disqualified.
  12. The personal information in the application form must be correct. If the winner is not reachable due to wrong information (contact number, address etc.), the prize will be canceled and will automatically be given to the next winner.

Prizes:

  1. The UN Environment Prize: One winner will receive an e-Certificate and Samsung Tab S.
  2. Samsung Engineering Prize: Two winners will receive an e-Certificate and Samsung Tab A.
  3. Eco-generation Prize: Three winners will receive an e-Certificate and Samsung Galaxy Buds.
  4. Honorable Mentions: Twenty winners will receive an e-Certificate.

Note: In order to reduce carbon footprint, the website will be issuing e-certificates. Also, no ceremonies will be held in this competition; all prizes will be distributed to deliverable areas.
