Applications are open for the 2025 United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Nansen Refugee Award. The award recognizes individuals, groups, or organizations taking extraordinary action to protect and assist refugees, internally displaced, or stateless people.

Selection Criteria:

  • Candidates may be individuals, groups, or organizations.
  • Their work must have a direct, positive impact on forcibly displaced or stateless people.
  • Their work relates to a major displacement situation or issue.
  • Nominations relating to climate, sports, sustainable solutions, and inclusion are encouraged, but other themes are also welcome.
  • They devote substantial time and effort, going above and beyond their expected roles.
  • They have the capacity to implement a project with the prize money (US$100,000 for the global laureate, US$25,000 for regional winners).
  • They have three strong references.

Award:

  • The 2025 global laureate receives a medal and US$100,000 to reinvest in humanitarian initiatives. Several regional winners receive smaller monetary prizes.

Selection Process:

  • The global laureate and regional winners are chosen by an independent Selection Committee.
  • The selection process is strictly confidential.
  • The winners will be announced in late 2025.
