Opportunity description
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Ensure waste is properly classified, stored, separated, labeled, and documented in waste records, and prepared for shipment in accordance with local state waste regulation requirements.
- Organize the waste storage area and all safety equipment, in accordance with Australian regulatory requirements, AU hazardous waste procedures, and Amazon Network policies.
- Raise requisitions for containers, labels, and other supplies to the Waste Procurement Officer to ensure stock levels are maintained on site.
- Engage and communicate with waste sellers to arrange waste collection, schedule and coordinate the waste collection, and follow up on paperwork for each waste shipment.
- Maintain and upload all shipping documents to the shared folder and digital waste reporting tool.
- Completing all environmental inspections at the site, raising the results and gaps therein, and then cooperating with the stakeholders at the site to implement the necessary procedures to achieve effective environmental management.
- Liaise with the Worksite Health and Safety (WHS), Inventory Control and Quality Assurance (ICQA), Internal Support Services (ISS0), supplier, and facility teams responsible for the sound management of hazardous chemicals.
- Preparing the monthly waste inventory and determining the shipping frequency needed to comply with the waste accumulation rates.
- Work on the digital waste reporting tool in accordance with the African Union's hazardous waste procedures.
- Assist with spill/leak clean-up activities.
- Notify relevant stakeholders (external and internal) of reported waste collections or unusual waste as determined by the AU Environmental Leader.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
- Secondary school certificate or its equivalent.
- Ability to work to a flexible schedule and work area, including the ability to work weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
- Ability to lift up to 49 lbs., stand/walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and ability to repeatedly push, pull, and bend.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week.
- Attention to detail and work with the highest level of precision.
- Strong writing skills and excellent communication skills.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly with managers and assistants at all levels.
- Achieve and exceed department performance targets.
- Proven ability to work productively and effectively in an independent environment and within a team.
Preferably:
- Ability to dive deep into data to identify opportunities, problems, or improvements to reduce the amount of waste.
- Experience with types of containers and all tools used to move products around the warehouse.
- Experience and knowledge of waste classification and segregation and government waste regulation requirements.
- Interest in working in EHS and environmental compliance at the site level.
- Diploma or certificate in the field of science or environmental science.
