Opportunity description
Microsoft announces a job opportunity as a Site Inspection and Certification Engineer in Romania. You will work with a broad range of Microsoft partners including developers in service teams, hardware engineers, data center technicians, supply chain managers, and business leaders to debug and resolve issues that delay the orderly build sequence. You will lead continuous improvement processes with these teams to prevent recurrence of issues and address common categories of issues across the Azure software suite through design reviews and issue management. This opportunity will give you significant system-wide learning on how the Azure cloud is built and maintained. Your connections with experts will enable you to dive deep into new services and technologies and partner for improvements. You will be responsible for tactically transforming automated problem mitigation processes and strategically analyzing data to identify and prioritize problem areas. This role requires the flexibility to hold virtual meetings and collaborate with partners across the globe. This position supports remote work up to 100% of the time from home.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Developing a fundamental understanding of distributed systems design, interactions between cloud technology layers and components, broad core dependencies, and the code that defines the infrastructure.
- Supporting ongoing engagement with product engineering teams by participating in code/design reviews, regular meetings, and incident response throughout product development and operations cycles.
- Gathering insights from engagements with product engineering teams and basic telemetry data analytics to suggest potential code and design improvements for a defined set of product components or features with guidance from other engineers.
- Implementing simple configuration and data changes across a predefined set of product components or features with guidance from other engineers to develop an understanding of how configurations, binaries, and data are managed using code, tools, and automation.
- Developing an understanding of how to manage changes in production safely and reliably by using existing tools and automation to enable product engineering teams to implement changes across a defined set of components or features, with guidance from other engineers.
- Using existing tools to troubleshoot issues or defects that impact the availability, reliability, performance, and/or efficiency of components or features, with guidance from other engineers.
- Propose potential solutions to resolve and prevent recurring issues and bring them to the attention of other engineers or team leaders.
- Respond to incidents during regular recall cycles by determining the level of impact, troubleshooting underlying issues, and deploying appropriate fixes to resolve the root cause(s).
- Alert product teams or owners to major issues impacting customers and escalate complex issues and/or those impacting multiple components or features to other engineers as needed.
- Share details of incidents and their resolution through post-mortem reports and during regular review meetings.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.
- Or a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
- You must be legally licensed to work in Romania to be eligible for this position (legally licensed = have citizenship or have obtained a valid visa or work permit).
- Relocation expenses will not be provided as part of this position.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred:
- Development, debugging, monitoring, and deployment skills for distributed systems.
- Professional knowledge of programming languages - C, C++, C#, Java.
- Systems, hardware and software interface, host and networking, large-scale network and server device management, investigation and root cause analysis across multiple systems/services/teams.
