Opportunity description

United Nations announces its United Nations Young Professionals Program. The United Nations Young Professionals Program (UN YPP) is an annual recruitment initiative aimed to attract highly qualified young professionals who are willing to start a career in the United Nations secretariat as international civil servants. As of today, it is the largest hiring program of the UN system and is the only opportunity for young professionals with limited experience to get a job in the organisation as a permanent staff member. Depending on the staffing needs of the United Nations, applicants are invited to apply for different job areas with different responsibilities, locations, and requirements. Applicants who pass all three stages of the UN YPP (application, written exam, interview) are recognized as successful candidates and become members of the United Nations roster of young professionals and will be offered a two-year fixed term contract at the start of their professional career, and in case of their satisfactory performance, they will be granted a continuing contract to further develop their career at the United Nations.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the United Nations Young Professionals Program (UN YPP) 2020, you should meet all of the following eligibility criteria:

At least a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent of at least three years) relevant to the job you are applying for. Your degree should be completed by the time you submit your UN YPP 2020 application. If your area of studies at the first-level university degree does not meet the requirements, but you have a completed advanced degree (Master’s, PhD) in the “relevant” area of studies, you are still eligible to apply for the UN YPP 2020.
Education requirements are specific for the exam area:
- Management & Administration. Your degree should be in one of the following areas: Business & Administration, Computing, Education, Environmental Protection, Humanities, Law, Mathematics & Statistics, Security Services, Social & Behavioral Science, Social Services, Transport Services.
- Global Communication. Your degree should be in one of the following areas: Arts, Business & Administration, Computing, Journalism & Information, Humanities, Social & Behavioral Science.
- Political Affairs & Human Rights. Your degree should be in one of the following areas: Business & Administration, Humanities, Law, Security Services, Social & Behavioral Science.
You should be 32 years old or younger in 31 December of the year of the examination. Thus, your date of birth should be on or after 1 January 1988.
Fluency in English or French language.
No professional experience is required to apply for the UN YPP 2020.
