Opportunity description

The Brookings Institution is offering a paid internship program in public policy in the USA. This internship is a great opportunity for undergraduate students, recent college graduates, and graduate students with an interest in international affairs and development to apply principles and theories learned in the لاclassroom in a professional environment. Interns spend approximately 10 weeks working alongside leading experts in government and academia from all over the world. Brookings also offers students the opportunity to intern in departments such as communications, human resources, and central operations management. The mission of the Internship Program is to provide students with a pre-professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work experience related to their field of study or career interest. Students engage in career exploration and development as well as learn new skills. Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events. In addition, interns may participate in Brookings sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution.

Duration:

The program will start in June 2020. Applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 20 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule.

Benefits:

This internship pays an hourly rate of $1500

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate students in their junior or senior year, recent college graduates, and graduate students working towards a degree in a relevant field (i.e. international development, international affairs, economics, foreign policy, political science, or related fields) are eligible to apply.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

The intern will join the Global Economy and Development program communications team in helping to share scholars’ research and findings. The intern will assist the team in publishing research as well as coordinating events at which the scholars will present their work.

Applicants should expect a range of responsibilities, broadly defined under the following categories:

  • Editing and Publishing: The intern will help publish working papers, policy briefs, blogs, reports, and executive summaries by providing support with editing, proofreading, and design review. The intern will assist in crafting messages, identifying target audiences, and preparing material for internal and external dissemination. Additionally, the intern will assist with media engagement by creating media lists and helping to identify coverage opportunities.
  • Event Support: The intern will provide support for Global Economy and Development program private and public events at Brookings through coordinating public event notices, invitation lists, partnership approvals, and event flow. The intern will assist in the coordination of meetings and events during the United Nations General Assembly. The intern should be prepared to help with general office support, assist with special projects, and perform other duties as assigned.
